The Cabinet decides: Civil courts are the right place to dissolve a marriage in the event of a spouse converting to Islam.

Children should follow the faith that the parents had agreed on at the time of marriage.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s department, Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz, said the Cabinet instructed the Attorney-General to look at all relevant laws which needed to be amended in line with the decision.
For Islamic enactments, he said they would have to be brought up with Rulers as heads of religion in their respective states.
The implementation of these legal changes may be a slow process and will meet with strong opposition. Therefore, we must pray that the proverb “There is many a slip between cup and lip” will not be applicable to this situation!
