Iraqi Christians – Standing In The Need Of Prayer

10 August 2009 By Peter Young | TinyURL TM

Three Iraqi Christians were murdered in Kirkuk on Sunday, 26th April 2009. A mother-in-law and daughter-in-law had their throats cut in their own home while a 17 year-old boy was shot dead in an attack on his home during which his brother and father were injured. The Muslim governor of Kirkuk province vowed to find the perpetrators and called on Christians not to be intimidated. Many Muslims attended the joint funeral. As you pray for those who mourn the three Christians, thank the Lord for this demonstration of support from the Muslim majority and pray that the militants who carried out these crimes will turn away from their violence and be drawn to the Prince of Peace.

Pray also for speedy progress in the building programme to provide housing for Iraqi Christian refugees. After many bureaucratic delays, the foundations on the first two sites were finally dug earlier this year in Northern Iraq. Pray that there will be no more delays on this badly needed project and that families who have fled the horrific anti-Christian violence in places such as Baghdad and Basra will find their new homes a place of peace and security.

Iraq is just one of the increasing number of countries where Christians, especially those who come to Jesus Christ from another religion, are being persecuted. For further information, contact Barnabas Fund or Open Doors.
