On the day of Pentecost (The Coming of the Holy Spirit), the apostle, Peter, in his address to the crowd, quoted from the prophet Joel:
In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy , your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. (Acts 2:17)
I am one of the ‘old men’ and I have a dream for UMNO (United Malay National Organisation).
Datuk Seri Najib Razak, on 13th October 09 (The eve of the General Assembly) stated ‘we have come to a stage where UMNO is seen as a party which looks after the welfare and well-being of all Malaysians. Although UMNO is a party for Malays and Bumiputras, it should be allowed to take charge of the interests of all people.’ As expected, he went on to say that UMNO would not open its doors to all the races just now, and added that it would be left to the members to determine that some time in the future when they were ready to do so.
During the General Assembly, Khairy Jamaluddin, UMNO Youth chief, stated that the national agenda should not be grounded on the narrow concept of Malay dominance but on the concept of a Malay leadership that is magnanimous and compassionate. That is also in line with Islamic teachings.
As a Malaysian citizen, I do not want to be “LOOKED AFTER”, “TAKEN CHARGE OF” or “LED” by a political party whose membership is restricted to Malays and Bumiputras. My dream is to be “LOOKED AFTER”, “TAKEN CHARGE OF”, and “LED” by a political party open to all Malaysian citizens – UMNO – United Malaysian National Organisation. Then there would be no need for MCA (Malaysian Citizenship Association) or MIC (Malaysian Independent Congress). Their members could all join UMNO.
I have always voted for the opposition. But if my dream came true, I MIGHT (emphasis on MIGHT) be tempted to become an UMNO member!
