Today this article caught my eye: Respect Islam and we will respect you, Najib tells Christians
Delving into the article, I found this quote:
“We wish to tell our friends, the Malaysian Christians… if they respect us, we will also respect them,” he told some 200 BN supporters at Kompleks Bunga Raya here.
“This is our message. Islam is fair to all. Islam is beautiful, Islam is grand, Islam is pure, Islam is noble.”
While the statement questioned whether Malaysian Christians respected Islam, it left no doubt that our Prime Minister does not respect Christians.
He does not say, “We respect them. But if they want to enjoy our continued respect then they must return respect towards Islam.”
What he says is, “if they respect us, we will also respect them.”
Of course we know that such a way of speaking is already an established pattern for the Prime Minister, he of “if you help me, I’ll help you” fame.
I don’t doubt that Christians respect Islam. For the Prime Minister to call that into question without even offering evidence is mischievous at best, if not downright malicious. For him to say this in front of muslims (I would expect 200 BN supporters to be mostly muslims), and the media, tantamounts to incitement.
Is such a character someone Christians should choose to be the Prime Minister?
