48. A message from my Christmas cards

30 December 2011 By Peter Young | TinyURL TM

I am quoting the Scriptures given in five of the Christmas cards which I have received. They portray the key events concerning the coming of Jesus Christ into the world.

1. The Prophecy of Isaiah around 740 BC

Isaiah 9:6, NIV
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

2. The Message of the angel who appeared to Joseph in a dream
Joseph was pledged to be married to Mary.

Matthew 1:21, NIV
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

3. The Birth of Jesus Christ

Luke 2:7, NIV
7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Luke 2:11, NIV
11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

4. The words of a great company of the heavenly host
The heavenly host appeared with the angel to the shepherds that night.

Luke 2:14, NIV
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

This wonderful message, which is relevant for everyone, is summed up by Jesus Christ himself in John 3:16, NIV

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
