Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today that Malaysia has taken World Bank loans since 1958, but the former prime minister said he had never personally written a letter or verbally requested for such funds.
So was he was completely in the dark, never informed, and if informed would always order his subordinates to do no such thing? Loans come with conditions that Malaysia will have to fulfill. Was he not aware?
In the same article he accused Anwar Ibrahim — whom he had appointed finance minister and deputy prime minister — of implementing policies of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to tighten conditions for bank loans and cutting government expenditure during the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis.
Was he helpless to prevent Anwar from implementing policies that he thinks were harmful to Malaysia? What kind of Prime Minister was he then?
Well, another article told us this:
”Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today admitted he was considered Malaysia’s most-feared prime minister, and attributed this to his character and personality.
“What is my legacy? I was the most feared prime minister,” Dr Mahathir said during a special gala dinner celebrating his 86th birthday here.

So the most feared prime minister in Malaysia wants us to now believe that his subordinates implemented policies and took international loans without his approval and authorization.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) announced today it is investigating allegations surrounding the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), despite previously saying it would not probe the matter.
The MACC earlier referred the case to the police, who are now conducting an investigation into possible criminal breach of trust.
But in a statement today, the commission revealed that a special team headed by MACC investigations director Datuk Haji Mustafar Ali has been formed to investigate claims of misappropriation of NFC funds.
“The commission would like to stress that the collection of evidence and testimony has begun since the issue was reported in the Auditor-General’s 2010 report and appropriate action has already been taken on issues raised (in the report),” it said, without detailing the commission’s actions so far.

MACC said it was a police matter and it would not investigate. Now it says it is conducting an investigation, and has been doing so ever since the Auditor-General’s report came out!
Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil denied again today any wrongdoing in the RM250 million National Feedlot Centre (NFC) scandal, stating she “is only the wife” of the national cattle farming project’s chairman.
The women, family and community development minister said “legally and professionally, I am not involved in the NFC.”
“I am just the wife of the NFC chairman. All women have families and husbands,” she told reporters today.

Shahrizat wants us to think of her as every woman, with families and husbands. What she failed to say was that she is a cabinet minister, the head of Wanita UMNO, the most powerful political party in control of the government which awarded the contract to her husband.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin admitted he received cash contributions through his personal account but stressed they were donations for social programmes in Bachok, Kelantan.
He said the donations were made to one of three personal bank accounts set up since 2004 to finance programmes in Bachok, where he is Umno division chief.
He stressed that he has all the records on sources of the aid, adding he has a special officer who handles it.
”I accept all donations, unless it comes with vested interests, like giving a donation to get a contract. I don’t have anything to do with the award of contracts as it is all done at committee level and I am just a deputy minister.
It is hard to think that this politician is so naive as to receive donations into his personal account. Yet he did. People donate to specific causes and special funds are set up to make sure that everything is above board. If people donate money to you and say “do as you think is right and good” and do not require you to account for the funds, then they are just giving you money. It doesn’t matter what you ultimately use the money for. You are still a public servant receiving money.
It’s only words. No accountability. No responsibility. No credibility behind those words. The (former) Prime Minister. The head of MACC. The cabinet minister. The deputy finance minister.
Whether you believe them to be truth or lies, the fact remains that these words were uttered to deny responsibility. They were uttered without any attempt at credibility. This is how the leaders of this country is now treating its people. The horror is that these are the people running the country, able to commit the country to billions of ringgit. Yet I do not see in them accountability, responsibility, credibility. Can the country survive another 5 years with this lot of people?
