LINGAM VIDEO CLIP REPORT
‘SIX UNDER PROBE’, ‘SIX FACE PROBE’ – How do we react when we read these headlines from the 17th May 2008 editions of the New Straits Times and Star?
“When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous”- Proverbs 21:25. We can certainly rejoice when in so many areas (such as reforms of the Judiciary) serious attempts are being made to bring about a greater display of justice into the life of our nation.
However we must be careful not to carry this rejoicing with us when we learn of prominent persons (sometimes Christian leaders) being brought to court and possibly found guilty. The Bible in contemporary language (The Message) tells us that ‘Love… does not revel when others grovel’ – 1 Corinthians 13:6a. It is easy for us to say, “They are getting what they deserve,” but who are we “to be the first to throw a stone”? – John 8:7.
Following the publication of the report, the newspapers and blogs will, for many months to come, be giving full details of the investigations which will be taking place. When we read these articles (or discuss them with our friends) we can do so either with great relish and delight or with a non-judgemental attitude, realising that we ourselves need to make constant use of the ‘Jesus Prayer’ - “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
